A while back I was invited to participate in Trashthedress.com as an N.J. member studio.
Each time I mentioned “trash the dress” to a bride, she frowned. “Hmm, too negative”, was my thought. Brainstorming with my partner Laura, we came up with a more positive spin and that became…. Itsjustadress.com. The whole concept is, ‘It’s just a dress, but he’s forever’. Let’s face it, the entire time you were engaged it was all about the dress. Obsessed, in most cases from talking with our brides. With almost 30 years of working with wedding couples, I’ve seen the cycle a thousand time. The dress (ah, my flowers made a wet spot!), the dress (ah, there’s a bug on my dress!), the dress (ah, you stepped on my train!). Then, by the end of the reception, when the dress has a black hemline and perhaps a wine stain and a ripped out bustle hook…. ah, it’s just a dress. So what do you do with it after the wedding? Spend big bucks to have it cleaned and put it in a box. Perhaps never to be seen again, let alone worn.
Now you have the opportunity to do a fun photo session that you would never dream of (OK, maybe you did dream about doing it) for fear of getting it dirty. The options are endless, and we have more ideas for sessions than we have weddings this year. Of course, YOUR ideas are the best ones. Mara and John, who were married on July 28th (hence the prisoner ID number) decided on Eastern State Penitentiary for their ‘It’s Just A Dress session’. Mara had visited on a school trip and said she always remembered it as a “very spooky place”. You can view a flash show of more of their images in the recent weddings page. Look for “Mara’s Dress”.
Even if we didn’t photograph your wedding, we’d still love to do a ‘It’s Just A Dress’ session with you! Give us a call.
